Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large sweet onions cut into thick slices
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

  2. In a small bowl, combine the garlic powder, thyme, oregano, and cayenne pepper. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the onions, then position the butter pieces around them.
  3. Generously top with both types of cheese before placing the pan in the oven.
  4. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the onions are tender and the cheese is bubbly.

Notes

Feel free to adjust the amount of cayenne pepper for your preferred spice level.
For a richer flavor, you can use aged smoked gouda.
Fresh thyme adds a lovely garnish and enhances the dish’s aroma.
