- 2 cups fresh strawberries cleaned and chopped
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- ¾ cup water
- Red food coloring optional
Instructions
- Mash 1 cup of chopped strawberries in a small bowl and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, combine sugar and cornstarch; then stir in water and the mashed strawberries.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring continuously. Add red food coloring if a darker hue is desired.
- Cook and stir for 3 minutes until thickened.
- Remove from heat and gently stir in the reserved chopped strawberries. Let the mixture cool for 10-15 minutes.
- Serve immediately or store for later.
Notes
This sauce pairs wonderfully with ice cream, pancakes, or cheesecake.
Feel free to adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of sugar used.
