Ingredients
Scale
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 (10 oz) bag mini marshmallows reserve 1 cup for stirring in at the end
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 5 cups rice krispies cereal
- 6 oz white chocolate (melting wafers or almond bark)
- 2–3 oz red melting chocolate
- red, white & blue sprinkles
Instructions
- Line an 8×8 pan with parchment and lightly butter or spray it.
- In a large pot over medium heat, melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until it turns golden brown and has a nutty aroma with brown specks forming at the bottom. Then, reduce the heat to low.
- Add all but 1 cup of mini marshmallows, stirring until completely melted and smooth. Remove from heat and stir in ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract and ¼ teaspoon of salt.
- Fold in 5 cups of Rice Krispies cereal until well coated. Gently fold in the reserved 1 cup of mini marshmallows for extra gooeyness.
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared pan. Press lightly with buttered hands or the parchment, ensuring not to compact too hard to maintain a soft texture.
- Allow to set for 30-45 minutes, then cut into 16 squares.
Notes
For a festive presentation, use a variety of colored sprinkles.
Make sure to let the bars cool sufficiently for easier cutting.
Store in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
