- 1 pound extra lean ground beef
- 3 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 24 ounces marinara sauce
- 1 teaspoon italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 25 ounces ravioli, divided, any variety
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
- ½ cup grated parmesan cheese, plus more for garnishing
- Fresh herbs, optional for garnishing
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F and spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
- In a large skillet, add ground beef and cook over medium-high heat, crumbling it as it cooks until browned.
- Add minced garlic to the skillet and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Stir in marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, onion powder, salt, and pepper; simmer for 3-4 minutes until warmed through.
- Spread about 1 to 1 1/2 cups of the meat sauce in the bottom of the casserole dish.
- Layer half of the ravioli evenly on top of the sauce.
- Spread half of the remaining meat sauce over the ravioli.
- Top with half of the mozzarella cheese and then add the remaining ravioli.
- Spread the remaining meat sauce over the ravioli.
- Top with the remaining mozzarella and sprinkle all of the Parmesan cheese on top.
- Cover the dish tightly with foil and refrigerate up to 48 hours if making ahead; allow to rest at room temperature for an hour before baking.
- Bake covered for 35 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake uncovered for an additional 10-15 minutes until the cheese is lightly browned and casserole is bubbly.
- Let rest for 10-15 minutes before garnishing, slicing, and serving.
Notes
Feel free to substitute the ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
If using frozen ravioli, ensure it is thawed before layering in the dish.
For extra flavor, consider adding fresh herbs as a garnish before serving.
