Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb. italian sausage mild
- ½ lb. ground beef
- ½ medium onion diced
- 6 oz. mushrooms
- 1 medium bell pepper diced
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 3 oz. mini pepperoni
- 15 oz. tomato sauce
- ½ cup water
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
- 1 tsp. oregano leaf
- ¾ tsp. basil leaves
- 12 hamburger buns
- 12 mozzarella slices
Instructions
- Brown the italian sausage and ground beef in a large skillet until no longer pink. Drain the meat and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add oil, onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms. Cook on medium for 7-8 minutes until the vegetables start to soften.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, water, garlic powder, oregano, and basil. Add the meat mixture and mini pepperoni back into the skillet and heat until bubbly, about 5 minutes.
- Place the bottom halves of the hamburger buns on a sheet pan. Distribute the meat mixture evenly on the buns and top with mozzarella slices.
- Broil for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and slightly golden. Watch closely to prevent burning.
- Top with the bun tops and serve immediately.
Notes
Feel free to add extra toppings like olives or bell peppers according to your preference.
For a spicy kick, consider using spicy sausage or adding chili flakes.
