  • 1 lb. italian sausage mild
  • ½ lb. ground beef
  • ½ medium onion diced
  • 6 oz. mushrooms
  • 1 medium bell pepper diced
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 3 oz. mini pepperoni
  • 15 oz. tomato sauce
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. oregano leaf
  • ¾ tsp. basil leaves
  • 12 hamburger buns
  • 12 mozzarella slices

Instructions

  1. Brown the italian sausage and ground beef in a large skillet until no longer pink. Drain the meat and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add oil, onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms. Cook on medium for 7-8 minutes until the vegetables start to soften.
  3. Stir in the tomato sauce, water, garlic powder, oregano, and basil. Add the meat mixture and mini pepperoni back into the skillet and heat until bubbly, about 5 minutes.
  4. Place the bottom halves of the hamburger buns on a sheet pan. Distribute the meat mixture evenly on the buns and top with mozzarella slices.
  5. Broil for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and slightly golden. Watch closely to prevent burning.
  6. Top with the bun tops and serve immediately.

Notes

Feel free to add extra toppings like olives or bell peppers according to your preference.
For a spicy kick, consider using spicy sausage or adding chili flakes.
