Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter cold and cubed
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1–2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- pinch of salt
- red white & blue sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream 1 cup of cold cubed butter with 1 cup of granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
- Incorporate 1 large egg and 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract into the butter mixture until fully combined.
- Gradually add in 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, ½ teaspoon of baking soda, and ½ teaspoon of salt. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Scoop out large balls of dough (about 1/4-cup or 1/3-cup each). Roll them into smooth balls and slightly flatten the tops.
- Bake for 9-11 minutes for 1/4-cup cookies, or 11-13 minutes for 1/3-cup cookies, until the edges look set and the centers remain soft and pale.
- Allow the cookies to cool completely on the pan before frosting.
Notes
Ensure butter is cold when creaming for the right texture.
Use heavy cream for a creamier frosting, or milk for a lighter option.
Sprinkles can be adjusted based on personal preference.
