Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- ½ cup finely chopped onion
- 1 ½ cups pizza sauce
- 1 teaspoon italian seasoning
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- salt and pepper, to taste
- 4 hamburger buns, or english muffins
- 1–2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
- In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with the chopped onion until no pink remains, draining excess grease.
- Add the pizza sauce, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, then simmer for a few minutes until warm and slightly thickened.
- On the baking sheet, place split buns or English muffins cut side up. For a crisp base, brush lightly with melted butter or olive oil and toast for 2-3 minutes if desired.
- Evenly spoon the beef mixture onto each half, then sprinkle generously with mozzarella cheese. Optionally, add mini pepperoni on top before baking.
- Bake for about 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Broil for 1 minute if a crusty top is desired. Finish with fresh basil if using.
Notes
You can replace ground beef with turkey for a leaner option.
Feel free to customize toppings with vegetables or different types of cheese.
