- 24 cupcakes, baked and cooled
- 1 recipe vanilla buttercream (or 3 cans of vanilla frosting)
- 10 ounces white candy melts
- Gel food coloring: pink, purple, teal
- Sprinkles
Instructions
- Melt the candy melts in three microwave-safe bowls using 30-second intervals, stirring in between until smooth. Add vegetable oil if necessary.
- Color each bowl of melted candy with gel food coloring (pink, purple, teal).
- Transfer each color into a small ziploc bag and cut off one tip. Pipe into mermaid tail molds as desired, allowing them to set.
- Carefully remove hardened tails from the molds once set.
- Separate the frosting into three bowls and color each with gel food coloring (pink, purple, teal).
- On a piece of plastic wrap, place the colored frostings in horizontal lines so they touch. Roll it up and twist the ends.
- Prepare a pastry bag with a 1M tip, cut off one twisted end of the frosting bag, and add it to the pastry bag. Squeeze until colors swirl out.
- Frost the cupcakes as desired, add sprinkles, and top with a mermaid tail.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Notes
Using paper bowls for melting candy makes cleanup easier.
Store any unused frosting in an airtight container for later use.
