  • Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups (300 g) granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 ¼ cups (306 g) whole milk
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (250 g) confectioners’ sugar
  • 4 to 5 tablespoons milk, or heavy cream for richer glaze
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch kosher salt, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and spray an 8 ½ x 4 ½-inch loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, kosher salt, and ground nutmeg.
  3. In another bowl, whisk the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla until well combined.
  4. Pour the milk mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  5. Transfer the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread it evenly.
  6. Bake for 60 to 70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few crumbs and the top appears golden brown.
  7. Let the bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then remove it from the pan and place it on a wire rack set over parchment paper.

Notes

Ensure that the ingredients are at room temperature for best results.
Feel free to add chocolate chips or nuts for additional flavor and texture.
For a richer glaze, use heavy cream instead of regular milk.
