French Onion Dip

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 large yellow onion finely chopped
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp chives chopped, for garnish, optional

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion, sugar, and salt. Cook, stirring often, until the onions are soft, golden, and caramelized, about 15 to 20 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and let the onions cool completely.
  4. In a bowl, stir together the sour cream, mayonnaise, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  5. Fold in the cooled onions until well combined.
  6. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to let the flavors develop.
  7. Sprinkle with chives before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding a splash of Worcestershire sauce.
Serve with fresh veggies or chips for dipping.
