Ingredients
Scale
- 6–8 pound smoked whole bone-in ham (not spiral sliced)
- 2 Tablespoons coarse-ground mustard
- 2 teaspoons liquid smoke
- 1 Tablespoon brown sugar rub
- 6 fluid ounces (½ a can) Coca Cola
- 1 cup BBQ sauce
- ½ cup apricot preserves
Instructions
- Place the smoked bone-in ham into a 6-8 quart crock pot.
- In a bowl, combine mustard and liquid smoke, then pour over the ham, rubbing it in well.
- Sprinkle the brown sugar rub over the ham and press it in.
- Pour 6 fluid ounces of Coca Cola around the edges of the ham in the crock pot.
- Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 5-8 hours. Avoid opening the lid during cooking.
- Combine BBQ sauce and apricot preserves in a bowl during the last hour of cooking. Coat the ham with half of this mixture and cover.
- After cooking, transfer ham to a serving dish and set aside the broth from the slow cooker.
- Use two forks to pull apart and shred the ham.
- Mix the remaining BBQ sauce mixture with 1 cup of ham broth, adjusting moisture as desired.
- Serve the pulled ham as preferred.
Notes
Cooking on low is recommended for the best tenderness.
Feel free to adjust the BBQ sauce according to your taste.
Reserve some broth for reheating or to add more moisture later.
