Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour (spooned & leveled)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 large egg, at room temperature
- 1/3 cup (67g) packed light or dark brown sugar
- 1/4 cup (60g/ml) milk, at room temperature
- 1/4 cup (60g) sour cream or plain yogurt, at room temperature
- 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup (90g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter
- 2 teaspoons light corn syrup
- 2 teaspoons water
- optional: rainbow sprinkles, for topping
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and grease a donut pan with nonstick spray. Prepare a second pan or bake in batches as needed.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg together.
- In another bowl, whisk the egg, brown sugar, milk, and sour cream/yogurt until smooth. Add the melted butter and vanilla, then stir together with the dry ingredients until just combined.
- Transfer the donut batter to a zip-top plastic bag, cut off a corner, and pipe the batter into the donut pan cavities, filling them about 1/2–2/3 full.
- Bake the donuts for 9–10 minutes until they spring back when pressed. Cool in the pan for 2 minutes, then transfer to a rack to cool before glazing.
- To make the glaze, combine the chocolate chips, butter, corn syrup, and water in a microwave-safe bowl, heating in 20-second increments until melted and smooth.
- Dip the tops of cooled donuts into the glaze and add sprinkles if desired. Serve immediately or allow the glaze to set.
