  • Total Time: 3 hours 20 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 1 cup whole milk warmed (to 100–110°F)
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter softened, cut into little cubes
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp finely minced garlic
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 3 cups light mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese shredded
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Fresh parsley chopped

Instructions

  1. In a stand mixer bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast; let sit for 8–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add the egg, flour, and salt; mix on low speed until a rough dough forms.
  3. Incorporate the softened butter and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  5. Prepare the garlic butter filling by mixing together butter, garlic, parsley, salt, and pepper.
  6. Roll the dough into a 12 x 16-inch rectangle on a floured surface.
  7. Spread the garlic butter filling evenly, then add mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
  8. Roll the dough from the long side into a log and slice into 8 even pieces.
  9. Arrange the rolls in a parchment-lined baking dish, cover, and let rise for 30–40 minutes.
  10. Brush the rolls with egg wash and sprinkle mozzarella on top, then bake at 350°F (180°C) for about 30 minutes.
  11. Mix melted butter and honey and brush over warm rolls; finish with fresh parsley.

Notes

Ensure the milk is at the right temperature to activate the yeast properly.
You can substitute fresh garlic with garlic powder if needed, though fresh gives a better flavor.
For an extra cheesy experience, feel free to add more mozzarella and parmesan.
