Biscuits and Gravy Casserole

This Biscuits and Gravy Casserole is a delightful dish that combines comforting flavors with easy preparation. Featuring layers of flaky biscuits, savory sausage, and gooey cheese, it’s perfect for a quick dinner or a hearty breakfast.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 45 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 ounce can grand's biscuits
  • 8 eggs
  • 1 pound sausage
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 5 tablespoons butter
  • 5 tablespoons flour
  • 2 ¼ cup milk divided
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13 inch pan with non-stick spray and set aside.
  2. Cut the biscuits into quarters and line the bottom of the greased pan.
  3. Brown the sausage in a skillet, draining off any grease, then layer it over the biscuits in the pan.
  4. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the sausage in the pan.
  5. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs and ¾ cup of milk until combined, then pour the egg mixture over the biscuits. Cover and refrigerate until morning.
  6. To prepare the gravy, melt 5 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan, then whisk in 5 tablespoons of flour until it forms a paste.
  7. Add salt and pepper, whisking until combined. Gradually whisk in 1 ½ cups of milk while cooking over medium-high heat, stirring constantly until it comes to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 2-3 minutes until thickened. Let the gravy cool and store it in the refrigerator overnight.
  8. In the morning, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  9. Remove the casserole from the refrigerator and allow it to come to room temperature while the oven preheats.
  10. Warm the gravy in the microwave for 1-2 minutes until it's pourable, then pour it over the egg casserole. Cover with aluminum foil.
  11. Place the covered casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 35 minutes. Remove the aluminum foil and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes until the casserole is set in the middle, the cheese is melted, and the edges are golden brown.
  12. Serve immediately.

Notes

For added flavor, consider using different types of sausage or adding vegetables.
The casserole can be prepared the night before and baked in the morning for convenience.
Feel free to experiment with different cheeses to suit your taste.
