Ingredients
Scale
- 3–4 pounds boneless pork loin, butt or shoulder
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1–2 cups bbq sauce
- 1–2 tablespoons liquid smoke , optional but recommended
- 8 hamburger buns
Instructions
- Wash the pork and pat it dry. Cut into three pieces.
- Place the pork pieces in the slow cooker, piercing them several times. Add 1 cup of water, pour the liquid smoke over the pork, then sprinkle salt and pepper. Cook on low for 8-10 hours, until the pork easily shreds.
- Remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it with two forks. Discard any excess fat and most of the liquid from the slow cooker. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker, adding 1-2 cups of BBQ sauce. Stir to combine and keep warm.
- Serve the warm pork on hamburger buns, adding desired toppings like slaw.
Notes
For extra flavor, use a smoky BBQ sauce.
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
