Ingredients
Scale
- butter or nonstick spray for greasing the pan
- 8 ounces kings hawaiian bread (half a loaf) torn or cut into 1-inch pieces
- 4 eggs
- 1 1/4 cup nonfat milk
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup cold butter cut into small pieces
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease an 8×8-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
- Place the torn bread pieces in the baking dish, filling it to the top.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until well combined. Pour this mixture evenly over the bread, pressing down firmly to ensure the bread absorbs the custard.
- In a small bowl, mix the flour, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs and sprinkle it over the bread evenly.
- Bake uncovered for 40-50 minutes or until the top turns golden brown and the center is set. Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, consider adding nuts or fruit to the bread mixture before baking.
Make it ahead of time by assembling the casserole the night before and baking it in the morning.
Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to three days; reheat in the oven for best results.
