Baked Condensed Milk Cinnamon French Toast

  • 1 loaf challah bread, sliced into 1 1/2 inch thick slices
  • 1/21 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 3 tablespoons vanilla extract
  • 6 tablespoons cold salted butter, sliced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 cups sliced strawberries
  • 6 ounces cream cheese (at room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Butter a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Whisk together eggs, 1 cup sweetened condensed milk, milk, 2 teaspoons vanilla, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and a pinch of sea salt in a bowl.
  3. Submerge each slice of challah bread in the custard mixture and let soak for at least 1 minute. Arrange the soaked bread in the prepared baking dish.
  4. Pour any leftover custard mixture over the bread. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  5. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon.
  6. In another bowl, toss sliced strawberries with 1 tablespoon of cinnamon sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) when ready to bake. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil and continue baking for another 20–25 minutes until golden and crisp around the edges. During the last 5 minutes of baking, add butter slices on top and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
  9. To prepare the whipped cream cheese, beat the cream cheese with an electric mixer until smooth, then add heavy cream and vanilla, whipping until soft peaks form.
  10. Serve warm with strawberries and whipped cream.

Notes

Adjust the amount of sweetened condensed milk based on your preferred level of sweetness.
You can refrigerate the assembled dish overnight for easy baking in the morning.
Feel free to top with your favorite fruits or maple syrup for added flavor.
