Ingredients

- 2 medium yellow onions diced
- 2 tbsp butter
- ½ tsp salt
- Pinch of black pepper
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 3 tbsp ketchup
- 2 tbsp sweet pickle relish
- 1 tsp mustard
- ½ tsp vinegar
- pinch garlic powder optional
- pinch onion powder optional
- 26–32 oz homemade french fries or frozen fries
- 6 slices american cheese
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add the diced onions, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and stir.
- Cook for 35-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until caramelized and golden brown.
- Whisk together the mayonnaise, ketchup, relish, mustard, vinegar, garlic powder and onion powder in a bowl to create the sauce.
- Prepare the fries according to package directions or your homemade recipe.
- Place the American cheese slices on top of the fries and return them to the warm oven until the cheese melts.
- Add the caramelized onions on top of the cheese fries and drizzle with the prepared sauce.
Notes
Choose ripe yellow onions for the best flavor when caramelizing.
Feel free to adjust the sauce ingredients to match your taste preferences.
Use homemade fries for a fresher taste, or opt for frozen fries for convenience.
