- 3–4 lbs beef brisket
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 tbsp spicy smoked paprika
- 2 tsp dried coriander
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 2 tsp salt
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 cup passata or canned crushed tomatoes
- 2 tbsp molasses or black treacle
- 4 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp wholegrain mustard
Instructions
- Trim excess fat from the brisket and season it with salt.
- Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan and sear the brisket until golden.
- Sauté chopped onions in the same pan until soft.
- Mix spices, passata, molasses, sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard in a bowl.
- Pour the spice mixture over the brisket in the slow cooker and add bay leaves.
- Cook on high for 6 hours or low for 8 hours until fork-tender.
- Skim off any fat from the sauce before serving.
Notes
Choose a well-marbled brisket for the best flavor and tenderness.
You can refrigerate leftovers overnight to easily remove excess fat.
This dish pairs wonderfully with hearty sides like mashed potatoes or coleslaw.
