- 1 pound lean ground beef (90% lean)
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 15 ounces tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon gluten-free Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 16 ounces frozen tater tots
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- In a skillet, cook ground beef until no longer pink.
- Add onion and bell pepper; sauté for 5 minutes.
- Stir in garlic and cook for another minute.
- Mix in tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Layer beef mixture in a greased baking dish.
- Sprinkle 1 cup of cheddar cheese over the beef.
- Top with a layer of tater tots.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until tater tots are golden.
- Add remaining cheese and bake for 5 more minutes.
- Cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, add jalapeños or hot sauce to the beef mixture.
Using a mix of cheeses can enhance the dish’s flavor.
Ensure tater tots are evenly spaced for uniform crispness.
