- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
- 2 tablespoons minced garlic
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons chili seasoning
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper
- 1 (27 oz) can chili beans (do not drain or rinse)
- Shredded cheddar cheese (for topping)
- Chopped onions (for topping)
- Sour cream (for topping)
- Jalapeños (for topping)
- Cilantro (for garnish)
- Avocado (for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add chopped onion and sauté for 2 minutes, then add minced garlic and continue for 2 minutes.
- Stir in ground beef and cook until browned; drain excess grease if necessary.
- Add tomato sauce, chili seasoning, salt, and crushed red pepper. Simmer uncovered for 20 minutes.
- Mix in chili beans with their juice and simmer for another 10 minutes.
- Serve with desired toppings.
Notes
Leftovers can be stored for up to 5 days in an airtight container.
For a lighter version, substitute ground beef with turkey or plant-based protein.
Adjust crushed red pepper for desired spice level.
