- 6 cups fresh berries (32 oz)
- 1 lb thick bread
- 1 1/3 cup applesauce or mashed banana
- 2/3 cup milk of choice (dairy or non-dairy)
- 2/3 cup egg whites or additional milk of choice
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup, agave, or honey
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare slightly stale bread for best texture.
- Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan and cut bread into 1-inch pieces.
- Whisk applesauce, milk, egg whites, maple syrup, and vanilla extract together.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread in the pan.
- Spread fresh berries over the mixture.
- Cover and refrigerate overnight.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 1 hour.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Use day-old bread for optimal consistency.
Experiment with various types of milk for different flavors.
Adjust syrup sweetness to your personal preference.
