Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 8-inch round cake pans.
- Combine vanilla cake mix and orange gelatin mix in a large bowl.
- Mix in fresh orange juice, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and orange zest until smooth.
- Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks.
- Beat softened butter until fluffy, then gradually add powdered sugar and mix until incorporated.
- Add heavy cream and orange extract, beating until smooth.
- Frost cooled cakes, layering as desired and creating a clean finish.
- Slice and serve, optionally pairing with ice cream or whipped cream.
