- 17 oz angel food cake, cut into 1" cubes
- 1 lb fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 1 lb fresh blueberries
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 2 Tbsp lemon juice (from 1/2 medium lemon)
- 2 packages (8 oz each) cream cheese, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 or 5 qt trifle dish (or 9x13 casserole dish)
Instructions
- Make lemon syrup by dissolving sugar in water, adding lemon juice, and cooling.
- Soften cream cheese and beat with sugar until smooth.
- Whip heavy cream with vanilla until stiff peaks form, then fold into cream cheese mixture.
- Assemble the trifle with layers of cake, syrup, cream, and berries until the dish is filled.
Notes
For best results, use fresh seasonal fruit.
Chill the assembled trifle for a few hours before serving to enhance flavors.
Consider using gluten-free angel food cake for dietary options.
