- 14 ounces (370 grams) whole peeled tomatoes
- 6 ounces (170 grams) tomato paste
- ¼ cup (40 grams) finely minced yellow onion
- 2 tablespoons (4 g) chopped fresh basil
- 1 teaspoon (4 g) sugar
Instructions
- Heat olive oil and butter in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat.
- Add minced garlic, dried oregano, crushed red pepper, and kosher salt; sauté for 2-3 minutes.
- Incorporate whole peeled tomatoes, tomato paste, yellow onion, fresh basil, and sugar; puree until smooth.
- Simmer the sauce on low heat for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
- Taste and adjust seasoning; store in an airtight container if not using immediately.
Notes
Let the sauce simmer longer for deeper flavor.
Adjust crushed red pepper for desired heat level.
Always taste at the end to perfect the seasoning.
