Mom’s Thanksgiving Turkey in a Bag

Ingredients

  • 1 whole turkey, thawed (824 lbs)
  • ½ orange or lemon, sliced in quarters
  • ½ medium yellow onion, skin removed and sliced in quarters
  • ½ cup (118ml) low sodium soy sauce
  • ¼ cup (59ml) sherry or white wine
  • ½ tablespoon (6g) packed brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Reynolds Turkey Sized Oven Bag
  • 1 tablespoon (9g) all-purpose flour

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Remove neck and giblets from turkey; rinse and pat dry.
  • Stuff the cavity with sliced citrus and onion.
  • Mix soy sauce, sherry, brown sugar, and black pepper for marinade.
  • Sprinkle flour inside the oven bag and place it in a roasting pan.
  • Put turkey in the bag, pour marinade over it, and seal tightly.
  • Cut six ½ inch slits in the bag.
  • Cook turkey according to weight until the thickest part of the thigh reaches 180°F.
  • Let turkey rest for 15 minutes in the bag before serving.

Notes

Ensure the turkey is fully thawed and dried for even cooking.
Basting is optional but don’t overdo it with the oven bag.
