- 1 tsp dry active yeast
- 2 ½ tbsp granulated sugar (plus ½ tsp extra)
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp milk powder
- 1 tbsp matcha powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp softened butter
- Sesame seeds (optional)
- 3 tbsp softened butter (for the chocolate shell)
- 2 ½ tbsp powdered sugar (for the chocolate shell)
- 1 tsp cocoa powder (for the chocolate shell)
- ½ egg white (for the chocolate shell)
- ¼ tsp vanilla extract (for the chocolate shell)
Instructions
- Combine warm milk, dry active yeast and ½ tsp sugar; let sit until foamy.
- Whisk together flour, milk powder, matcha powder, remaining sugar and salt.
- Pour yeast mixture into dry ingredients; add egg and softened butter.
- Knead dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Let dough rise in a greased bowl for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Punch down dough, divide into portions, and shape into turtles.
- Arrange on baking sheet, cover and let rise for 30-40 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden.
- Prepare chocolate shell and drizzle or dip turtles after cooling.
Notes
Ensure milk is warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast.
Knead dough well for the best texture.
Allow proper rising time to achieve light, airy bread.
