  • ¼ cup butter, softened at room temperature (60 grams)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar (100 grams)
  • 3 tablespoons lemon zest (from approximately 3 lemons), divided
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup cream cheese, softened at room temperature
  • ½ cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  • Whisk together milk, melted butter, and egg in a medium bowl.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt.
  • Pour wet mixture into dry ingredients and stir until no dry flour remains.
  • Knead the dough on a clean surface for about 5 minutes.
  • Grease the mixing bowl and let dough rise for 1 hour or overnight until doubled.
  • Roll the dough into a 20×14-inch rectangle on a floured surface.
  • Spread butter evenly over the dough and top with lemon sugar filling.
  • Roll dough tightly, cut into 12 pieces, and place in a greased 9×13-inch pan.
