- 2 and 1/4 teaspoons (7g) instant or active dry yeast (1 standard packet)
- 2 Tablespoons (25g) granulated sugar
- 3 Tablespoons (43g) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 3 and 1/3 cups (433g) bread flour (spooned & leveled), plus more as needed and for hands/work surface
- Optional: 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Topping: 2 Tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter, melted
- Topping: 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Topping: 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- Optional for sprinkling: dried parsley or other favorite herb
Instructions
- Whisk warm water, yeast, and sugar in a bowl; let sit until foamy.
- Add melted butter, salt, and 1 cup flour; mix on low.
- Gradually add remaining flour until dough pulls away from bowl.
- Knead dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and slightly tacky.
- Place dough in a greased bowl; cover and let rise for 1.5-2 hours.
- Prepare baking sheets with parchment or silicone mats.
- Punch down dough, divide, and shape into logs; place on baking sheets.
- Cover and let rise for about 20 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (204°C); bake breadsticks for 18-19 minutes.
- Melt butter and mix with salt and garlic powder for topping.
- Brush baked breadsticks with garlic butter and sprinkle herbs if desired.
Notes
Ensure yeast is active by checking for foam before mixing.
Adjust flour based on humidity for the right dough consistency.
Keep an eye on baking time as ovens may vary.
