- 4 oz (113 g) cream cheese, cold
- 2 cups (260 g) powdered sugar
- Red food coloring (for decorative pink icing)
- Valentine's Day sprinkles (for decorating)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare cake pans.
- Mix dry ingredients in a bowl and set aside.
- Cream together butter and sugar until fluffy.
- Add eggs and vanilla, mixing until smooth.
- Gradually incorporate dry ingredients and buttermilk.
- Fold in red gel food coloring.
- Divide batter between pans and bake for 26-29 minutes.
- Cool cakes before frosting.
- Beat butter, then add cream cheese for frosting.
- Add powdered sugar gradually while mixing.
- Level cakes, assemble into heart shape, and frost.
- Chill and add decorative touches.

Chill frosting briefly if it becomes too soft during piping.
