  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup (60 g) sour cream, at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) whole milk, at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup (112 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup (20 g) Dutch process cocoa powder
  • 1 cup (130 g) powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) heavy cream
  • 6 Oreos, with filling removed
  • 6 oz dark chocolate bars, chopped
  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • 1 cup (224 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 oz (226 g) cream cheese, cold
  • 3 cups (390 g) powdered sugar
  • Gel food coloring (blue, green, gold, red)
  • Sprinkles for decorating

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with liners.
  • In a bowl, whisk together dry ingredients.
  • Beat butter and sugar until fluffy, then add egg and yolk, mixing until smooth.
  • Slowly add sour cream and milk, then combine with dry ingredients.
  • Divide batter among liners and bake for 17-19 minutes.
  • Mix butter and salt for sorting hats, then add cocoa and powdered sugar.
  • Form hats using Oreo pieces filled with frosting and freeze until solid.
  • Melt dark chocolate and coconut oil; coat frozen hats and cool.
  • Whip butter and cream cheese, then mix in powdered sugar for frosting.
  • Color frosting and fill cupcakes with it; pipe on remaining frosting.
  • Decorate with sorting hats and sprinkles.
