  • 8 ounces finely chopped walnuts
  • 8 ounces finely chopped shelled pistachios
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 (2-inch) piece fresh orange peel

Instructions

  • Thaw phyllo dough and keep covered with a damp cloth.
  • Prepare the syrup by boiling sugar, water, honey, lemon juice, and orange peel.
  • Cool the syrup after 10 minutes of simmering.
  • Chop walnuts and pistachios, then mix with ground cinnamon.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and brush a baking dish with melted butter.
  • Layer phyllo dough, brushing with butter between each sheet, adding nut mixture after every eight layers.
  • Cut the baklava into shapes before baking for about 45 minutes until golden brown.
  • Cool the baklava before pouring cooled syrup over the top.
