- 1 (16-ounces) package phyllo dough, thawed according to package instructions
- 1 1/4 cups melted butter
- 8 ounces finely chopped walnuts
- 8 ounces finely chopped shelled pistachios
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 (2-inch) piece fresh orange peel
Instructions
- Thaw phyllo dough and keep covered with a damp cloth.
- Prepare the syrup by boiling sugar, water, honey, lemon juice, and orange peel.
- Cool the syrup after 10 minutes of simmering.
- Chop walnuts and pistachios, then mix with ground cinnamon.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and brush a baking dish with melted butter.
- Layer phyllo dough, brushing with butter between each sheet, adding nut mixture after every eight layers.
- Cut the baklava into shapes before baking for about 45 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool the baklava before pouring cooled syrup over the top.
Notes
Make sure to handle phyllo dough carefully to keep it from drying out.
Storage: Keep baklava at room temperature in an airtight container.
