- 6 slices bacon, chopped
- 1 small onion, diced
- 6 cups chopped green cabbage, core removed, 1-inch pieces
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes, or to taste, optional
- salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet or cast iron pan over medium heat.
- Add the chopped bacon and cook until crisp. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and set it aside, leaving the drippings in the pan.
- Add the chopped onion to the bacon drippings and cook until tender, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in the chopped cabbage and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until tender.
- Season with red pepper flakes if using, and add salt and pepper to taste.
- Sprinkle the cooked bacon over the top and serve.
Notes
For extra flavor, you can add garlic to the onion as it cooks.
Feel free to adjust the amount of red pepper flakes based on your spice preference.
Serve as a side dish to complement meats or as a filling main course.
