  • 12 Hawaiian dinner rolls
  • 1 pound deli sliced roast beef
  • 12 slices Swiss cheese
  • 3 tablespoons butter (for brushing)
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 ½ tablespoons dried onion soup mix
  • Au jus gravy mix (prepared when serving)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Melt 4 tablespoons of butter in a skillet and caramelize the onions for about 15 minutes; season with thyme, salt, and pepper.
  • Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half and place the bottom halves on the baking sheet.
  • Layer roast beef, Swiss cheese, and caramelized onions on the bottom buns.
  • Mix 3 tablespoons melted butter with Dijon mustard and brush it on the top buns; sprinkle with onion soup mix.
  • Tent with foil and bake for 15-20 minutes until cheese is melted; remove foil and bake an additional 5 minutes for crispy tops.
  • Serve with au jus for dipping.
