Ingredients

  • Cayenne pepper powder (added later if other hot peppers aren't used)
  • 34 tablespoons fresh citrus (e.g., lemon or orange) – optional
  • 34 tablespoons fresh grated turmeric – optional
  • Black pepper – optional
  • Hot chili peppers (as a substitute for cayenne) – optional
  • ¼ cup dried elderberries or rosehips – optional
  • Fresh herbs (e.g., oregano, lemongrass, thyme, rosemary, sage, calendula blooms) – optional

Instructions

  • Chop onion, garlic, horseradish, and ginger and prepare any optional citrus.
  • Fill a clean glass jar with the chopped ingredients until about ¾ full.
  • Pour raw apple cider vinegar over the ingredients to fill the jar.
  • Seal the jar and let it steep at room temperature for 3 to 4 weeks, shaking daily.
  • Strain the mixture after the steeping period, squeezing solids for maximum liquid.
  • Add raw honey and cayenne pepper to taste, stirring to combine.
  • Store in the refrigerator or a cool, dark place.
