- 8 cups water (use only 1 cup if using fresh elderberries)
- 16–24 ounces honey
Instructions
- Gather all ingredients and ensure elderberries are clean.
- In a large saucepan, combine water and elderberries.
- Bring mixture to a simmer over medium-low heat.
- Add spices and continue simmering until liquid reduces by half.
- Strain the mixture to extract juice.
- Whisk in honey until combined.
- Optionally, add liquor for preservation.
- Bottle and refrigerate syrup.
Notes
Ensure elderberries are cooked to avoid toxicity.
Adjust honey amount based on taste preferences.
Store in sterilized jars for longer shelf life.
