- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup vegetable shortening (Crisco)
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 3/4 cup vegetable shortening
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 7 cups (2 pounds) confectioners’ sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2–3 tablespoons milk (as needed)
- Green food coloring
- Piping bags with 'grass' tip
- 2 bags of small chocolate eggs
Instructions
- Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cream vegetable shortening, sugar, eggs, and vanilla in a mixer.
- Gradually combine dry and wet ingredients.
- Chill dough for at least 4 hours.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out dough and cut out cookies.
- Bake cookies for 8–10 minutes.
- Cool cookies on a wire rack.
- Cream shortening and butter for frosting.
- Add confectioners’ sugar and vanilla; adjust with milk.
- Color frosting with green food coloring.
- Pipe frosting and add chocolate eggs to cookies.
Notes
Chilling the dough keeps cookies in shape.
Use vibrant food coloring for the best results.
Allow cookies to cool completely before decorating.
