- 4 large egg yolks
- 4 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ounces cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup (8 tablespoons) butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon almond extract, or vanilla extract
- ⅛ teaspoon salt
- 6 cups powdered sugar
- ⅓ cup milk, or as needed
- Food coloring, optional
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Stir in salt and extracts, then add egg yolks and mix well.
- Gradually add flour until just combined, then divide and roll out dough.
- Chill rolled dough for at least 15 minutes.
- Use cookie cutters to cut shapes and place on baking sheet.
- Bake for 8-9 minutes, then cool on wire rack.
- For frosting, cream together cream cheese and butter, add extract and salt.
- Gradually mix in powdered sugar and milk, adjusting for consistency.
- Frost cooled cookies and decorate as desired.
