- 2 large onions
- ⅔ cup (80 g) all-purpose flour, spelt, or gluten-free flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 2 tbsp (18 g) cornstarch
- 3 tbsp (16 g) nutritional yeast flakes or vegan parmesan
- 1 tsp paprika powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp salt
- ¼ tsp pepper
- ⅔ cup (160 ml) soy milk or other dairy-free milk
- 1 cup (120 g) breadcrumbs
- Vegan dill dip for serving
Instructions
- Peel and slice the onions into rings.
- Combine flour, baking powder, cornstarch, nutritional yeast, paprika, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and whisk in the dairy-free milk for a smooth batter.
- For frying, heat oil to 356°F (180°C), dip onion rings in batter, fry until golden brown, then drain.
- For baking, preheat oven to 428°F (220°C), coat onion rings in batter and breadcrumbs, bake for 15-20 minutes flipping halfway.
Notes
Ensure oil is at the correct temperature for frying.
Spray baking rings with oil for better crispiness.
Feel free to mix different flours for variety.
