Ingredients
Scale
- 4 soft hoagie rolls
- 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast, thinly sliced
- 4 tablespoons cooking oil, divided
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 bell peppers, thinly sliced (red or yellow preferred)
- 2 cups thinly sliced onion (about one medium red onion)
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 12 slices white American cheese (or substitute with 8 slices of Provolone)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C). Slice hoagie rolls and place them cut-side up on a sheet pan.
- Marinate chicken with oil, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper for 15 minutes.
- Sauté half the chicken in a skillet until golden brown, then repeat with remaining chicken.
- Cook bell peppers and onions in the same skillet until tender, about 10-12 minutes.
- Mix sautéed vegetables with the chicken in a bowl.
- Spread butter on hoagie rolls, layer with cheese, fill with the chicken mixture, and bake for 8-10 minutes until cheese is melted.
Notes
Slicing the chicken thinly helps with even cooking.
Caramelizing the vegetables enhances their sweetness and flavor.
Feel free to try different cheese varieties for a unique taste.
