Ingredients

- 2 lb (1 kg) onions, peeled and sliced (white, sweet, red, or yellow)
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp butter (or substitute with an additional tablespoon of olive oil)
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
Instructions
- Heat butter and olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
- Add sliced onions and cook for 15-20 minutes until softened, stirring occasionally.
- Season with salt and pepper, reduce heat, and cook for another 20 minutes, stirring frequently.
- Add balsamic vinegar and brown sugar, cook on low until onions are sticky and deep in color.
Notes
Stir frequently to prevent sticking.
Adjust the sweetness with more or less brown sugar.
Experiment with different onion types for unique flavors.
