- ⅔ cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 4 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 ¼ cups buttermilk, room temperature
- 1 cup dark brown sugar, packed
- ⅓ cup evaporated milk
- ⅓ cup heavy cream
- 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl.
- Beat the butter until creamy, then mix in the granulated and light brown sugars until fluffy.
- Add the vanilla extract and eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Fold in half of the dry ingredients, followed by half of the buttermilk, repeating until just combined.
- Divide the batter between prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
- For the frosting, melt butter, light and dark brown sugars, and salt in a saucepan. Then stir in heavy cream and evaporated milk.
- Whisk in powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
- Assemble the cake by spreading frosting between layers and on top.
- Cool the cake before slicing.
Notes
Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for even mixing.
Cool cake layers completely before frosting to prevent melting.
Use a serrated knife for leveling the cake layers.
