  • 1 cup dark brown sugar, packed
  • ⅓ cup evaporated milk
  • ⅓ cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl.
  • Beat the butter until creamy, then mix in the granulated and light brown sugars until fluffy.
  • Add the vanilla extract and eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Fold in half of the dry ingredients, followed by half of the buttermilk, repeating until just combined.
  • Divide the batter between prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
  • For the frosting, melt butter, light and dark brown sugars, and salt in a saucepan. Then stir in heavy cream and evaporated milk.
  • Whisk in powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
  • Assemble the cake by spreading frosting between layers and on top.
  • Cool the cake before slicing.
