- 1 lb Ground Beef (90% Lean)
- 1 teaspoon Olive Oil
- 2 Cloves Garlic, minced (or 2 teaspoons garlic powder)
- 2 Scallions, sliced thin
- 2 tablespoons Fresh Cilantro, chopped
- 1 tablespoon Chili Powder
- 1 tablespoon Cumin Powder
- ½ teaspoon Salt (or to taste)
- 1 teaspoon Ground Black Pepper
- Water (for sealing the pastel edges)
- Oil for frying (Soybean Oil recommended)
Instructions
- Sift the all-purpose flour into a bowl and make a well.
- Add egg yolk and butter, mix in water gradually until combined.
- Knead the dough for about 4-5 minutes, cover, and let it rest for 1 hour.
- Cook ground beef in olive oil, add spices, and let the mixture cool.
- Roll out the dough and cut into squares.
- Fill each square with beef mixture, seal edges with water, and crimp.
- Heat oil to 360°F-375°F and fry pastels until golden brown.
Notes
Ensure oil temperature is correct for a crispy texture.
Avoid overfilling pastels for proper sealing and cooking.
