- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar (divided)
- 1 cup (240mL) water
- 1 Tablespoon (15mL) lemon juice
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon (divided)

- 2 cups (240g) sifted all-purpose flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 6 Tablespoons (85g) cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces
- ¾ cup (180mL) buttermilk
Instructions
- Combine blackberries, 1 cup sugar, water, lemon juice, ½ teaspoon cinnamon, and ½ teaspoon vanilla in a skillet.
- Simmer the mixture over medium heat.
- Mix flour, baking powder, remaining cinnamon, salt, and ¼ cup sugar in a bowl.
- Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Combine buttermilk and remaining vanilla, then mix into the flour mixture until just combined.
- Drop dumpling dough over the simmering sauce.
- Cover and cook on low for about 12-14 minutes until puffy.
- Check the internal temperature of the dumplings.
Notes
For the best texture, use cold butter and avoid overmixing the dough.
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Frozen blackberries can be substituted for fresh without any issues.
