- 5 cups (700 g) apples, peeled and diced into ½ inch pieces (about 4 large apples)
- 1/2 cup (140 g) salted caramel sauce
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp ground allspice
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1/8 tsp ground cloves
Instructions
- Prepare salted caramel sauce by melting sugar and mixing with butter and cream.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare the baking pan.
- Make the shortbread crust and bake until light golden.
- Prepare streusel topping and keep it cool.
- Cook apple filling with spices until apples are tender.
- Spread apple mixture over crust, top with streusel, and bake until golden.
- Cool completely, cut into bars, and drizzle with caramel.
Notes
Ensure butter and cream are at room temperature for the caramel.
Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for depth of flavor.
Allow the bars to chill for clean cutting.
